August is the hottest month of the year.<\/p>\n<p>August is definitely a s-l-o-w month in Florida.\u00a0 The temperature is in the mid-upper 90\u2019s, which isn\u2019t really too bad for a Floridian, but the humidity feels like it\u2019s 120\u00b0!<\/p>\n<p>You walk out of your cool house, and it hits you like a wet washcloth, immediately making you sweat from your hair to your toes.<\/p>\n<p>So, it\u2019s time to just relax, enjoy the beach and read a good book.\u00a0\u00a0 And thank heaven for air-conditioning!<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong>Topic Of The Month \u2013 Tension Headaches<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.chaneyhealth.com\/healthtips\/headache-relief-treating-your-shoulder\/headache-relief-pain\/#main\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-3491\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-3491\" src=\"https:\/\/www.chaneyhealth.com\/healthtips\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/headache-relief-pain-300x188.jpg\" alt=\"headache\" width=\"300\" height=\"188\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.chaneyhealth.com\/healthtips\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/headache-relief-pain-300x188.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.chaneyhealth.com\/healthtips\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/headache-relief-pain.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Lately a lot of people have been coming to my office complaining of headaches that have plagued them for a long time\u2026in one case for years!<\/p>\n<p>This woman has been everywhere and had every test that the medical world could offer.\u00a0 Nothing showed <em>why <\/em>she had these terrible headaches.\u00a0 At one point she told me the pain was a 10 on a scale of 1-10.\u00a0 Imagine how terrible it was for her to suffer every day from such a crippling condition.\u00a0 My heart went out to her!<\/p>\n<p>Fortunately, her problem was caused by muscles, the one thing that most of the medical world <em>doesn\u2019t <\/em>consider when looking for a solution to pain.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, if you watched my TED talk: <em>The Pain Question No One is Asking, <\/em>you may have already heard me talk about this missing link. (If you haven\u2019t heard my TED talk, go to YouTube and enter: Julie Donnelly, Pain and I\u2019ll pop up.)<\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s talk about muscles and why they will cause headaches (and a whole lot more!).<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong>Which Muscles Cause Tension Headaches?<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>While there are many causes for headaches, such as stress, anxiety, depression, head injury, or anxiety, and life-threatening causes we won\u2019t go into here, one type of headache that is caused by muscular tension is known as a muscle contraction tension headache.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.chaneyhealth.com\/healthtips\/?attachment_id=4847#main\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-4847\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4847\" src=\"https:\/\/www.chaneyhealth.com\/healthtips\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/Muscles-That-Cause-Headaches.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"712\" height=\"372\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.chaneyhealth.com\/healthtips\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/Muscles-That-Cause-Headaches.jpg 712w, https:\/\/www.chaneyhealth.com\/healthtips\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/Muscles-That-Cause-Headaches-300x157.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 712px) 100vw, 712px\" \/><\/a> As shown in the graphics above, muscle spasms (colored circles) will refer pain to your head, even when you don\u2019t feel any discomfort where the spasm is actually occurring (as seen in the graphic on the bottom, the Sternocleidomastoid muscle).<\/p>\n<p>(Please don\u2019t get confused with the Posterior Deltoid showing in the right graphic, or the jaw muscles on the left graphic&#8230;I just didn\u2019t know how to delete them from the graphic)<\/p>\n<p>Muscles in the neck and scalp can become tense or contract in response to stress, depression, or anxiety, leading to tension headaches.\u00a0 Fortunately, in many cases, simply pressing on the trigger points (the colored circles) will release the tension being felt in your head.<\/p>\n<p>To prevent tension headaches, it is important to maintain good posture, practice relaxation techniques, and use a pillow that keeps your head, neck, and spine in a horizontal plane while you sleep.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong>Treating Tension Headaches Naturally<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>There are too many treatments for headaches to include all of them in this newsletter.\u00a0 If you want to know them, I suggest you get one of my books, especially <em><a href=\"https:\/\/julstromethod.com\/shop\/\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Pain-Free Living<\/span><\/a> <\/em>or <em><a href=\"https:\/\/julstromethod.com\/shop\/\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">The Pain-Free Athlete<\/span><\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, I want to share an important Julstro self-treatment that you may find works well for tension headaches:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.chaneyhealth.com\/healthtips\/?attachment_id=4848#main\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-4848\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-4848\" src=\"https:\/\/www.chaneyhealth.com\/healthtips\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/Perfect-Ball-Placement-For-Headache-Treatment-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.chaneyhealth.com\/healthtips\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/Perfect-Ball-Placement-For-Headache-Treatment-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.chaneyhealth.com\/healthtips\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/Perfect-Ball-Placement-For-Headache-Treatment.jpg 462w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Place a ball such as the Perfect Ball (shown in picture) or a tennis ball, on the top of your shoulder.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Lean into the corner of a wall, as shown. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chaneyhealth.com\/healthtips\/headache-relief-treating-your-shoulder\/headache-relief-shoulder-muscle-pressure-wall\/#main\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-3487\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-3487\" src=\"https:\/\/www.chaneyhealth.com\/healthtips\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/headache-relief-shoulder-muscle-pressure-wall.png\" alt=\"headache relief shoulder muscle pressure using wall\" width=\"207\" height=\"276\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Keep your head close to the wall to prevent the ball from slipping and landing on the floor.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Bend at your hips so your upper body goes up and down, causing the ball to roll along the top of your shoulder.
