How wonderful it will be on New Year\u2019s Eve to look back and read 365 successes for 2020!<\/p>\n<p>I hope you had a wonderful holiday season and that you\u2019re also eager about starting 2020.\u00a0 Here\u2019s to a year of adventure, joy, health, prosperity, and fulfillment of all your dreams!<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong>Why We Get Shoulder Pain<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.chaneyhealth.com\/healthtips\/?attachment_id=4463#main\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-4463\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-4463\" src=\"https:\/\/www.chaneyhealth.com\/healthtips\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/Shoulder-Muscle-Attachments-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.chaneyhealth.com\/healthtips\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/Shoulder-Muscle-Attachments-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.chaneyhealth.com\/healthtips\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/Shoulder-Muscle-Attachments-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.chaneyhealth.com\/healthtips\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/Shoulder-Muscle-Attachments-50x50.jpg 50w, https:\/\/www.chaneyhealth.com\/healthtips\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/Shoulder-Muscle-Attachments.jpg 447w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>For some reason I\u2019ve had a LOT of clients come in with shoulder issues this month, more than normal, so it made me decide that this month\u2019s topic should be about the shoulder.<\/p>\n<p>The shoulder has more muscle attachments than any other joint in the body, which Is the reason we have such a wide assortment of movements we can make with our shoulder and arm.<\/p>\n<p>There are 16 different muscles that impact your shoulder and cause movement and stability to the joint.\u00a0 Each muscle is pulling in a different direction, and that\u2019s a blessing, and a potential problem.<\/p>\n<p>For example, when one muscle is trying to pull your arm forward, and the muscle that pulls your arm back is in spasm, you will have pain every time you try to move your arm to drive a car, type at your computer, or lift anything up.\u00a0 And the pain can get severe if it\u2019s not treated properly and quickly.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong>How I Treated My Frozen Shoulder<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.chaneyhealth.com\/healthtips\/frozen-shoulder-treatment\/frozen-shoulder-treatment\/#main\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-3457\" src=\"https:\/\/www.chaneyhealth.com\/healthtips\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/frozen-shoulder-treatment-199x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"199\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.chaneyhealth.com\/healthtips\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/frozen-shoulder-treatment-199x300.jpg 199w, https:\/\/www.chaneyhealth.com\/healthtips\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/frozen-shoulder-treatment.jpg 332w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 199px) 100vw, 199px\" \/><\/a>In 1993 I had the worst case of frozen shoulder I\u2019ve ever seen in anyone before or since.<\/p>\n<p>Every one of the 16 muscles had gone into a sudden spasm, pulling in 16 different directions.\u00a0 It locked my elbow to my waistline and even the slightest movement in any direction caused excruciating shoulder joint pain.\u00a0 Nobody could figure out what to do and I ended up tying my arm to my body to stop the stabbing hot knife pains I felt with even the slightest movement.\u00a0 It was horrible! I knew what I would do to help you, but I couldn\u2019t find anyone who could do those same treatments for me.\u00a0 What to do?!<\/p>\n<p>You know that voice that\u2019s forever running in your head?\u00a0 I was frantic and said out loud, \u201dWhat the heck am I going to do?\u201d And a voice in my head said to me \u201ctreat yourself!\u201d\u00a0 Really, now how was I going to self-treat all these muscles when I had absolutely no movement in my left arm?\u00a0 The voice said: \u201cfigure it out!\u201d\u00a0 So, I did!<\/p>\n<p>It wasn\u2019t easy, and it was definitely painful, but step-by-step I worked out how to treat each muscle using a ball, and my fingertips.\u00a0 It took me five months to get back to 100% mobility, but I did it.\u00a0 Next thing I knew every client who came to my office was suffering from shoulder pain. Nobody was as severe as I had been, but their situation was still very painful and limiting them in many ways.<\/p>\n<p>I realized that I wouldn\u2019t have gotten full range-of-motion back if I hadn\u2019t been self-treating several times a day, so I started to teach my clients how to help themselves.\u00a0 I didn\u2019t have any pictures yet so I could only show them one or two techniques each time they came in, but it made a huge difference.\u00a0 People started getting better, and I moved on to a new aspect of my therapy practice -\u2013 teaching people how to self-treat for permanent pain relief.<a href=\"https:\/\/www.chaneyhealth.com\/healthtips\/eye-pain-relief\/pain-free-living-book-3\/#main\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-3575\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" pictures of each self-treatment, and I hand wrote a description of what the picture was demonstrating.\u00a0 I didn\u2019t have a computer yet, but that\u2019s another long story about how it all became my first book (the title was so long, even I don\u2019t remember it!).\u00a0 I learned to have short titles for each book, and now every treatment I teach is in either <em>Treat Yourself to Pain-Free Living, The Pain-Free Athlete, <\/em>or <em>The 15 Minute Back Pain Solution.\u00a0 <\/em><\/p>\n<p>If you have been to see me for therapy, you know that I teach you what to do at home.\u00a0 That\u2019s definitely something most massage therapists don\u2019t do, but my feeling is I\u2019m only successful if you are out of pain and you stay that way.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong>One Important Shoulder Self-Treatment You Can Use First<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>We\u2019ll demonstrate on the left \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Put a ball in your right hand and then bring your hand under your left armpit or you can place the ball as shown in the picture.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.chaneyhealth.com\/healthtips\/frozen-shoulder-treatment\/frozen-shoulder-treatment-moving-arm-back\/#main\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-3455\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-3455\" onto a wall, moving until you find the \u201chot spot.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Stay there for about a minute, either staying still or moving very slightly.<\/p>\n<p>Take the pressure off the ball to let blood get into the area and repeat several times.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Move about, bringing the ball up further into your shoulder blade, and down toward your armpit (treating the latissimus dorsi muscle).<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong>There Is So Much More<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>As I mentioned, there are 16 muscles involved in moving our shoulder and arm, and this is only one technique to ease pain and stiffness.\u00a0 In my opinion, this is the #1 treatment I always teach because it helps so much, but the others are important
