It was painful to stand up. While talking to Suzanne and Dr. Chaney I was using my elbow to work on the sore area, and when we were discussing the blog for this month it only made sense to share this technique with you.\u00a0 So, Dr. Chaney took pictures and I sat at his computer to write.\u00a0 I thought others may want to how to <strong>relieve hip pain after sitting<\/strong> or driving for long periods.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center; color: #339966;\">What Causes Anterior Hip Pain?<\/h2>\n<p>As I\u2019ve mentioned in posts in the past, sitting is the #1 cause of low back pain, and it also causes anterior hip pain (pain localized towards the front of the hip) because the muscles (psoas and iliacus) pass through the hip and insert into the tendons that then insert into the top of the thigh bone.\u00a0 When <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chaneyhealth.com\/healthtips\/hip-pain-relief\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-2383\" src=\"https:\/\/www.chaneyhealth.com\/healthtips\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/hip-pain-relief-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"hip pain relief\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.chaneyhealth.com\/healthtips\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/hip-pain-relief-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/www.chaneyhealth.com\/healthtips\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/hip-pain-relief.jpg 354w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a>you try to stand up, the tight muscle tendons will pull on your thigh bone.\u00a0 The other thing that happens is the point where the muscle merges into the tendon will be very tight and tender to touch. You aren\u2019t having pain at your hip or thigh bone, but at the muscular point where the muscle and tendon merge.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s a bit confusing to describe, but you\u2019ll find it if you sit down and put your fingers onto the tip of your pelvis, then just slide your fingers down toward your thigh and out about 2\u201d. The point is right along the crease where your leg meets your trunk.<\/p>\n<p>The muscle you are treating is the Rectus Femoris, where it merges from the tendon into the muscle fibers.\u00a0 Follow this link, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.getbodysmart.com\/ap\/muscularsystem\/thighmuscles\/anteriormuscles\/rectusfemoris\/tutorial.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">thigh muscle,<\/a> to see the muscle and it will be a bit easier to visualize.<\/p>\n<p>You need to be pressing deeply into the muscle, like you\u2019re trying to press the bone and the muscle just happens to be in the way.\u00a0 Move your fingers around a bit and you\u2019ll find it.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center; color: #339966;\">Easy Treatment for Anterior Hip Pain After Sitting<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.chaneyhealth.com\/healthtips\/relieve-hip-pain\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-2382\" src=\"https:\/\/www.chaneyhealth.com\/healthtips\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/relieve-hip-pain-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"relieve hip pain\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.chaneyhealth.com\/healthtips\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/relieve-hip-pain-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/www.chaneyhealth.com\/healthtips\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/relieve-hip-pain.jpg 354w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a>Here is an easy treatment for hip pain after sitting you can administer yourself.\u00a0 First, sit as I am, with your leg out and slightly turned.<\/p>\n<p>Find the tender point with your fingers and then put your elbow into it as shown.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s important to have your arm opened so the point of your elbow is on top of the spasm. \u00a0It\u2019s a bit tricky, but if you move about a bit you\u2019ll come on to it, and it will hurt.\u00a0 Keep the pressure so it\u2019s tolerable, not excruciating.<\/p>\n<p>After you have worked on this point for a few minutes you can move to the second part of the treatment.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.chaneyhealth.com\/healthtips\/hip-pain-treatment-2\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-2381\" src=\"https:\/\/www.chaneyhealth.com\/healthtips\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/hip-pain-treatment-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"hip pain treatment\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a>Put the heel of your \u201csame-side\u201d hand onto your thigh as close to the spasm as you can get.\u00a0 Lift up your fingers so the pressure is only on the heel of your hand.\u00a0 You can use your opposite hand to help give more pressure.<\/p>\n<p>Press down hard and deeply slide down the muscle, going toward your knee.\u00a0 You can also kneed it like you would kneed bread dough, really forcing the muscle fibers to relax.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m putting in a picture from a previous blog to explain how you can also treat this point of your rectus femoris by using a ball on the floor.<\/p>\n<p>As shown in this picture, lie on the floor with the ball on your hip muscle, and then slightly turn your body toward the floor so the ball rolls toward the front of your body.
