He told me he desperately wanted to find some pain relief. He loves to sail and this sore shoulder pain was preventing him from going out on the water.\u00a0 He&#8217;d\u00a0already been to a massage therapist, a physical therapist, and a chiropractor. He finally went to an orthopedic surgeon and was told that surgery was the only way to get relief from his painful shoulder. However, he had decided that he didn\u2019t want to take that path\u2026yet.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center; color: #339966;\">Why Muscles Can Cause\u00a0a Painful Shoulder<\/h2>\n<p>I use an analogy that makes it clear why muscle spasms in your shoulder will cause joint pain.\u00a0 If you pull your hair, your scalp will hurt. As any of the muscles get tight it puts pressure on the bone. Your painful shoulder\u00a0is the end result \u2013 just like pulling your hair hurts your head.<\/p>\n<p>To get relief all you need to do is release the tension in the muscles.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center; color: #3366ff;\"><strong>Stretching WON\u2019T Help Ease a Painful Shoulder!<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>It is important to untie the knots (spasms) in the muscles <em>before <\/em>stretching. Think of what happens if you take a 12\u2033 length of rope, tie enough knots in it so it is 11\u2033 long, and then try to stretch it back to 12\u2033 without first untying the knots.\u00a0 This is what will happen to your muscle fibers if you stretch without first releasing the spasms.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.chaneyhealth.com\/healthtips\/flexibility-dvd\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-2162\" src=\"https:\/\/www.chaneyhealth.com\/healthtips\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/flexibility-dvd-279x300.jpg\" alt=\"flexibility dvd\" width=\"200\" height=\"215\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.chaneyhealth.com\/healthtips\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/flexibility-dvd-279x300.jpg 279w, https:\/\/www.chaneyhealth.com\/healthtips\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/flexibility-dvd.jpg 281w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/a>I\u2019ve worked for years with people who not only have sore shoulder pain, but also have pain in every joint. Frequently pain is caused by repetitive muscle strain while working or playing sports and it needs to be released. Working with athletes it was vital to teach them how to do self-treatments they could use during a race or competition. Each addresses a different group of muscles that move your shoulder and arm. This muscle brings your shoulder back, like you\u2019re taking a tennis serve. When your Infraspinatus muscle is in spasm, it causes shoulder pain as you try to bring your arms forward.<\/p>\n<p>Place the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.mcssl.com\/app\/?af=1618070\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Perfect Ball<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0as shown in the picture, and lean your weight into the ball.\u00a0 Look for the \u201chot spot,\u201d which will be tender.\u00a0 As you lean into the ball take the pressure off, and then lean again. You\u2019ll find the painful shoulder\u00a0becoming less and less painful each time you again add pressure.<\/p>\n<p>Move the ball to different areas of your shoulder, finding the various painful points.\u00a0 Each one is a spasm that is causing your sore shoulder pain.\u00a0You can enhance this treatment by slowly drawing your arm across your body while you are still pressing into the ball. Since the spasms have been released, this movement will safely stretch the muscle fibers. As you release each spasm, and then stretch, you\u2019ll find pain relief and you\u2019ll know how to stop pain quickly and easily should it return.<\/p>\n<p>As for the man mentioned at the beginning of this blog, I taught him how to do the self-treatments.\u00a0 I\u2019m happy to say that today he told me he slept through the night for the first time in weeks.
