Even though he had been recommended to go for surgery, his friend convinced him to give muscle therapy a chance. So yesterday \u201cFrank\u201d came in to see me.<\/p>\n<p>He demonstrated throwing a ball, but he could barely lift his arm, and he definitely couldn\u2019t bring it back. He said that his time with his son is precious to him, and that their favorite pastime is throwing a baseball.\u00a0 If I could just help him do that, he would be happy.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center; color: #339966;\">Why Muscles Cause Shoulder Joint Pain<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.chaneyhealth.com\/healthtips\/shoulder-joint\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-2037\" src=\"https:\/\/www.chaneyhealth.com\/healthtips\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/shoulder-joint.jpg\" alt=\"shoulder joint\" width=\"285\" height=\"306\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.chaneyhealth.com\/healthtips\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/shoulder-joint.jpg 285w, https:\/\/www.chaneyhealth.com\/healthtips\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/shoulder-joint-279x300.jpg 279w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 285px) 100vw, 285px\" \/><\/a>Your shoulder has more muscle attachments than any other joint in your body.\u00a0 A muscle pulls in only one direction, muscles never push. When you consider all the movements you can make with your shoulder and arm, you can see why there are so many muscles involved.<\/p>\n<p>The important fact is when a muscle is shortened from spasms, it will cause pain at its insertion point on the bone at the shoulder joint.<\/p>\n<p>The reason is evident when you consider an analogy I frequently use to describe joint pain. If you pull your hair at the end, it hurts at your scalp.\u00a0 However, you don\u2019t need to massage your scalp, you don\u2019t need to take aspirin for the headache, and you definitely don\u2019t need brain surgery!\u00a0 You just need to let go of your hair!<\/p>\n<p>The exact same thing is true to stop your shoulder joint pain. You just need to let go of the tight muscles that insert into your shoulder.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center; color: #339966;\">The Muscles That Cause Shoulder Joint Pain<\/h2>\n<p>Perhaps you\u2019ve heard of the rotator cuff muscles: supraspinatus, infraspinatus, teres minor, and subscapularis. However, my experience has proven that there are a lot of other muscles that aren\u2019t considered shoulder muscles, but that will cause shoulder joint pain. Those muscles are your biceps and triceps, your levator scapulae, and your latissimus dorsi (among others).<\/p>\n<p>While not rotator cuff muscles, your biceps and triceps both originate deep within your shoulder joint. The other two muscles will move your shoulder blade (scapula). When they are in spasm, which shortens the muscle fibers, it will cause a strain to be placed on the muscle tendon, which will then cause a strain, and pain, on your shoulder joint.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center; color: #339966;\">How To Release Shoulder Joint Pain<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.chaneyhealth.com\/healthtips\/shoulder-joint-pain-relief-2\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-2036\" src=\"https:\/\/www.chaneyhealth.com\/healthtips\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/shoulder-joint-pain-relief.jpg\" alt=\"shoulder joint pain relief\" width=\"266\" height=\"273\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.chaneyhealth.com\/healthtips\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/shoulder-joint-pain-relief.jpg 266w, https:\/\/www.chaneyhealth.com\/healthtips\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/shoulder-joint-pain-relief-50x50.jpg 50w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 266px) 100vw, 266px\" \/><\/a>There are so many muscles involved in shoulder joint pain that I couldn\u2019t show all of them here, that\u2019s why I wrote\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.mcssl.com\/app\/?af=1618070\" target=\"_blank\"><strong><em>Treat Yourself to Pain-Free Living<\/em><\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>However, I do want to show you how to do one treatment for your\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Infraspinatus_muscle\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>infraspinatus muscle<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>But first, back to \u201cFrank.\u201d\u00a0 I treated each of the muscles mentioned, and then using\u00a0<em>Treat Yourself to Pain-Free Living,<\/em> I showed him how to treat each of the muscles of his shoulder.\u00a0 He was thrilled!\u00a0 He could easily, and painlessly, throw a baseball.\u00a0 In fact, he went outside and tried it just to make sure.<\/p>\n<p>The key is self-treatment.\u00a0 Muscles will again shorten up until you train them to be their normal, longer, length. You can\u2019t go to a therapist as often as necessary to make the muscles return to their proper length. However, <em>you can treat yourself <\/em>every day! That\u2019s how you really stay flexible and pain-free \u2014 frequent self-treatment.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center; color: #339966;\">An Easy Treatment For Shoulder Joint Pain<\/h2>\n<p>The following pictures are from <em>Treat Yourself to Pain-Free Living<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.chaneyhealth.com\/healthtips\/shoulder-joint-pain-treatment\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-2035\" src=\"https:\/\/www.chaneyhealth.com\/healthtips\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/shoulder-joint-pain-treatment.jpg\" alt=\"shoulder joint pain treatment\" width=\"187\" height=\"141\" \/><\/a>Step 1<\/strong>: To treat your left infraspinatus, put the\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mcssl.com\/app\/?af=1618070\" target=\"_blank\">Perfect Ball<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>in your right hand and bring it under your arm, going back as far as you can so you are on top of your infraspinatus muscle.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 2<\/strong>:\u00a0 Lean into a wall.\u00a0 Find the \u201chot spot\u201d (the spasm).\u00a0 You\u2019ll know you\u2019re on it because it will hurt.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.chaneyhealth.com\/healthtips\/shoulder-joint-pain-relief-equipment\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-2034\" src=\"https:\/\/www.chaneyhealth.com\/healthtips\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/shoulder-joint-pain-relief-equipment.jpg\" alt=\"shoulder joint pain relief equipment\" width=\"187\" height=\"141\" \/><\/a>Step 3<\/strong>:\u00a0 Stay still for 30-60 seconds, then move a little bit to roll the ball back and forth on the muscle.<\/p>\n<p><em>Treat Yourself to Pain-Free Living <\/em>will explain this further, and will give you pictures and descriptions of how to self-treat the other muscles that cause shoulder joint pain.<\/p>\n<p>It just takes a little bit of direction and effort to learn how to self-treat.
